Design resortโ
Our pickA round-trip from Anchorage down the Kenai Peninsula โ tidewater glaciers, a fjord wildlife cruise, sea otters and eagles, and design-lodges & cabins with real Instagram cred. The strongest Alaska pick for 2026.
One design-forward, Instagram-active pick per stop (all handles verified). Alaska's stylish-lodging clusters are Girdwood, Seward & Homer โ which is exactly this loop.
Round-trip from Anchorage, hugging the water the whole way โ Turnagain Arm to Girdwood, over to Seward for the fjords, then out to Homer on Kachemak Bay. Toggle the map layers; tap a pin for a photo & Google Maps link.

Two Alaska realities: (1) SIXT doesn't operate in Alaska โ rent an SUV from Enterprise / National / Alamo, or Alaska 4ร4 for a proper adventure rig, at ANC (book 2โ3 months out). (2) Denali's Park Road is closed at Mile 43 all of summer 2026 (Pretty Rocks landslide repair) โ Eielson & Wonder Lake are unreachable โ which is exactly why the Kenai loop is the smarter 2026 trip.
Ease in along Turnagain Arm to this mountain-rainforest town: ride the Alyeska tram to alpine views, hike the Winner Creek boardwalk, and soak at the Nordic Spa. A gentle, glorious first two days.

CabinsModern cabins & A-frames tucked in the spruce around town โ hot tubs, decks, quiet, and room for the whole family.

The trip's headline stop: a Kenai Fjords boat cruise past calving tidewater glaciers, whales, otters and puffins; walk right up to Exit Glacier; and the excellent SeaLife Center for the kids.

Our pick
Riverside lodgeThe artsy end of the road: the Homer Spit for otters, eagles and galleries, then a water-taxi across the bay to hike Grewingk Glacier or lunch in Halibut Cove. Wide skies, big seafood.

Splurge ยท all-inclusiveThree ways to do Alaska โ here's the honest comparison (and why the Kenai loop wins for 2026).
Girdwood โ Seward โ Homer, round-trip ANC. Least driving, richest wildlife, best stylish lodging, and unaffected by the Denali closure. 7โ9 nights.
The big-mountain route โ but the 2026 Park Road closure at Mile 43 guts the deep-park bus experience. Better in 2027. 5โ7 nights.
Everything, but driving-heavy and tight at 10 days โ really wants 11โ12. And Denali is still limited in 2026.
Fly LAX โ Anchorage (Alaska Airlines nonstop, ~5h40). Rent an SUV at ANC โ SIXT isn't in Alaska; use Enterprise/National/Alamo or Alaska 4ร4.
17โ18 hrs of daylight early month; salmon runs peak (great bear & eagle viewing); wettest stretch starts late August on the coast โ pack layers. Book cruise + lodging 2โ3 months ahead.
Toggle โฆ on the map for the splurges: Tutka Bay Lodge, and the helicopter-access Sheldon Chalet on a Denali glacier (~$32k/night โ for the fantasy).
